JAN OBRIEN EARNS PRESTIGIOUS DESIGNATION TO HELP HOMEOWNERS IN DANGER OF FORECLOSURE

Jan OBrien, Corporate-Broker for Realty ONE Group in Henderson, Nevada has earned the prestigious Certified Distressed Property Expert (CDPE) designation, having completed extensive training in foreclosure avoidance and short sales. This is invaluable expertise to offer at a time when the area is ravaged by "distressed" homes in the foreclosure process.

Short sales allow the cash-strapped seller to repay the mortgage at the price that the home sells for, even though it is lower than what is owed on the property. With plummeting property values, this can save many people from foreclosure and even bankruptcy. More and more lenders are willing to consider short sales because they are much less costly than foreclosures.

RealtyTrac reports that for June 2011, more than 8,000 properties in the Las Vegas area are in danger of foreclosing. It is happening in all price ranges. Local experts say that even high-priced homes are not immune.

"This CDPE designation has been invaluable as I work with sellers and lenders on complicated short sales," said OBrien. "It is so rewarding to be able to help sellers save their homes from foreclosure."

Alex Charfen, founder of the Distressed Property Institute in Boca Raton, Fla., said that Realtors® such as (NAME) with the CDPE designation have valuable training in short sales that can offer the homeowner much better alternatives to foreclosure, which virtually destroys the credit rating. These experts also may better understand market conditions and can help sellers through the emotional experience, he said.

The Distressed Property Institute opened in January 2008 and provides training on-site and online. The CDPE is the premier designation for Realtors helping homeowners in distress and handling short sales.

Chris Elder

I am Chris Elder a Real Estate Salesperson, and long time Las Vegas resident, I have been married since 2004 and have a lovely daughter.  I believe strongly that if you love what you do, then success will follow. I have found fulfillment in the fast changing world of Real Estate. I am very detail oriented, enjoy helping people, and love learning. I make it a point to learn as much as possible about the career I choose, and it seems that the information is always changing in the Real Estate world.

I have previously worked as an aircraft mechanic, maintaining general aviation aircraft at a local flight school, then making a move to Clark County Department of Aviation to supervise a group of maintenance technicians at McCarran International Airport. These jobs allowed me to help people, but on a much smaller scale. Real estate has allowed me to teach and communicate with more freedom, and focus more on ethics and integrity.

In my personal life I have enjoyed many hobbies and love learning new skills. I grew up in Las Vegas, graduating from Las Vegas High School in an undisclosed year.  After journeying to Alaska to work on the the Trans-Alaskan pipeline, I returned home to purchase my first fixer-upper tri-plex.  This interest in real estate, led me to a job in the title/escrow field.  I bought more rental homes in Las Vegas during this period and learned how to fix it... whatever "it" was.  After 8 years in the Title business, I moved into a position originating Home Mortgages for the next 15 years.  I started selling my rental homes and 1031 exchanged land that I subdivided onto lots.  My timing was great... all of our timing was great during those early 2000's.  I stopped doing home loans and got a real estate license.  I gained experience with real estate sales/commercial real estate and bought more land.  I am pretty focused on real estate...wouldn't you say?

So there it folks, real estate is my cheese.  It's flavor, taste, location are very different.  I am not looking for cheese in the same place wondering where and when it will return.  Please let me use all of my experiences in life/real estate to assist you with your next real estate transaction.
